A NEW programme of open farm days will give Islanders unprecedented access to Jersey’s growing network of local producers.
The Sustainable Cooperative’s new series of Open Farm Days invites locals to meet and engage with some of the island’s most innovative organic and regenerative growers, with opportunities to explore market gardens, animal systems, beekeeping, and even Jersey tea and sea salt production.
Each tour is followed by a meal, prepared using ingredients grown or reared on the site.
The initiative aims to build a stronger network of support while connecting local producers with consumers, and is supported by Farm Jersey.
The Sustainable Cooperative said the idea grew from a lack of connection between growers.
“We felt that an opportunity for local growers to observe each other’s work first hand would help facilitate a deeper exchange of knowledge and stronger more supportive relationships,” it said.
It added that the loss of the Island’s largest vegetable farm, Woodside, in 2022 highlighted how “precarious our supply of food can be”.
Upcoming events include La Croix Regeneration Centre on 29 March, Jersey Tea Company on 17 May, and Jersey Zoo on 5 July. All start at 11am.
