A YOUTH has pleaded guilty to three motoring offences after two Islanders had their cars taken for a joy ride over the weekend.

The youngster – who cannot be named due to their age – pleaded guilty to the offences, which took place on Saturday 21 February, in Youth Court yesterday.

The charges were taking and driving a vehicle without consent, driving while disqualified from holding a driving licence, and driving without insurance.

Bail was refused and the youth was remanded in custody until a sentencing hearing next month.

A second youth also appeared in court yesterday to be sentenced for multiple offences which took place between September and October 2025.

These included grave and criminal assault, breach of the peace, shop larceny, taking and driving a vehicle without consent, driving while using a mobile phone, driving while disqualified due to age, and driving without insurance.

The second youngster recieved a four-month probation order, concurrent on all charges, and was disqualified from driving for 18 months.

Islanders are being encouraged to lock their vehicles after it emerged that those involved in the joyriding incident over the weekend were left unlocked with the keys inside.

States police said: “Don’t make yourself an easy target.

“Remember, if your car or items are stolen whilst your vehicle is unlocked, your insurance might not cover you.

“Locking your car is a simple step which can help save you – and us – a world of trouble.”
