A LANDSLIP that occurred on Wednesday night following heavy rain has forced the closure of parts of the Railway Walk.

The partial collapse of the path happened near the Jersey Water impounding pond near Mont Nicolle.

It appears to have been caused by water channelling beneath the railway walk, according the Infrastructure and Environment Department.

Teams worked with Geomarine to stabilise the slip and utilities in the area remain operational – but risk of further collapse remains.

They have closed part of the Railway Walk – cordoning it off with barriers to prevent pedestrian access – and anticipate it won’t open for several weeks.

The affected section is from the Pont Marquet dip, at the traffic-light-controlled pedestrian crossing, to the point where it meets St Aubins Hill at the small car park near the language school at the end of the 20mph zone.

However, the department added that members of the public are advised to avoid the area entirely, as there is no through route from Les Quennevais to St Aubin.
