THE much-loved annual Soup Kitchen organised by The Shelter Trust will be returning to the Royal Square next month for its 27th edition.
Islanders, businesses, schools and community groups are invited to support Jersey’s homeless community from 10.30am on Tuesday 9 December until the soup runs out, with a minimum £3 donation for soup and buttered French bread.
Over the past 26 years, the key fixture in Jersey’s charitable calendar has raised more than £270,000.
Around 40 signature soups are expected, donated by local hospitality partners, hotels, restaurants and community groups. Local bakeries will provide bread, and the event will also be continuing its longstanding tradition of live school and community choir performances throughout.

Funds raised on the day go directly to The Shelter Trust, which supports around 100 people across seven sites in and around St Helier.
Mike Powell, Chair of Trustees, said: “The Soup Kitchen is a wonderful reminder of Jersey’s generosity and sense of community. Every bowl of soup served helps us provide warmth, food, and shelter to those who need it most, particularly through the cold winter months.”
Shelter, which was founded more than 30 years ago, also works to prevent homelessness through early intervention, financial guidance, tenancy support, and partnerships with other local organisations.
Dan McAlister, CEO of LGT Wealth Management, said the firm was “proud” to be supporting the fundraiser for a tenth year, adding that it “highlights the important work of the Shelter Trust and the strength and generosity of our Jersey community”.
For those seeking to get their soup fix ahead of time, Headway will be holding their own soup kitchen – featuring recipes created by some of the Island’s top chefs – on Wednesday at Charing Cross.
Every bowl of soup or piece of cake sold will go towards funding the wellbeing and rehabilitation services delivered at the charity’s Day Centre, which supports around 40 Islanders each week.
