A 29-YEAR-OLD man who is already in prison for breaking into a relative’s flat has been sentenced to a further 12 months for theft and unauthorised vehicle use.

Andrew James Richomme was sentenced in the Royal Court following a series of offences spanning from October 2023 to August 2024.

Richomme targeted commercial premises and vehicles during the hours of darkness, often gaining access without forced entry.

In several cases, vehicles were left unlocked with keys inside, making them easy targets.

Damage was frequently caused due to poor driving ability, leaving owners with costly repairs and insurance complications.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Hafey said: “When someone interferes with another person’s property, it causes real distress and disruption. These crimes are not victimless.

“The work that goes into proving such offences is significant and often involves many different departments and investigative strands: digital forensics, CCTV work, crime scene investigations, this is in addition to suspect interviews, victim statements and report writing and engagement.”

He added: “The States of Jersey Police continue to work hard to prevent and investigate crime. However, public vigilance plays a vital role and we urge people to assist by securing their property and reporting any suspicious activity as soon as possible.

“Together, we can maintain Jersey’s reputation as a safe and secure community.”

Police are encouraging people to reduce the risk of opportunistic crime with simple steps such as locking doors, securing windows, bicycles, and removing keys from vehicles.

Richomme’s sentence will be served on top of a custodial term he is already serving for a separate offence involving a break and entry at a relative’s flat in town.
