A RESTORED townhouse nestling between lofty buildings near the Hospital could provide year-round tourist and short-stay accommodation, if Planning agree.
The owner of Sandringham House in Patriotic Place, which connects Gloucester Street to Patriotic Street, wants to provide “high-quality, boutique holiday accommodation” in the three-storey, four-bedroom terraced house.
The property is already available on AirBnB – which describes it as a “stylish townhouse in the heart of St Helier” – Booking.com and with Freedom Holidays but planning guidance restricts holiday lets to 12 weeks a year without ‘change of use’ permission, which the applicant is seeking.
If approved, the property will be classed ‘Short-term Holiday Letting Accommodation’. The applicant owns and lives there part-time, between residence in England and other travels.
The application states: “The letting aims to be unobtrusive to neighbouring properties and passers-by, with strict rules on occupancy and usage to exclude parties, events, stags and hens dos, with advice on quiet hours from 10 pm to 7 am, and security deposits.”
It concludes: “The proposed Change of Use for Sandringham House aims to offer an attractive and sustainable boutique accommodation offering for short-stay tourists and professionals, in contribution to the local economy, with no loss of residential accommodation in remaining in use by its owner-occupier.
“These changes will involve no change to the appearance or configuration of the property, and the use is entirely reversible to a full-time residence at any time.”
