THE inaugural flight of a new route between Jersey and France – and Alderney – has landed in the Island.

There was a water salute from fire engines for the aircraft after it touched down in Jersey Airport for the first time on Friday.

There were seven passengers on-board the Cessna Grand Caravan, which has a capacity for nine.

Breton airline Finistair is running the route as part of a trial funded by Jersey’s government.

The services will run every Friday and Sunday until 31 August.

Economic Development Minister Kirsten Morel previously said the trial was to “assess the appetite for a longer-term service between the islands and France”.

Finistair said the new connection aimed to “strengthen cultural, social and economic ties” between the Channel Islands and Brittany.
