FIVE Islanders have been recognised for their contributions to charity and Island life in King Charles III’s Birthday Honours List, while the Lieutenant-Governor has been awarded a Knighthood.

His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, Vice Admiral Jeremy Kyd CBE, who was a Royal Navy Fleet Commander before relocating to Jersey, has been appointed a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire “for services to the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Royal Navy”.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Beechey, whose 30 years of experience includes key roles within the emergency responses to the major maritime and Haut du Mont incidents in 2022, has been awarded a King’s Police Medal.

Ian Gallichan, who next month steps down as the CEO of Andium Homes after a 34-year career in the social housing sector, has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to the community.

Jurat Colette Crill has been made an MBE for services to justice, human rights and the community. As well as serving on the benches of the Royal Court including as Lieutenant-Bailiff, Jurat Crill has for many years been at the helm of the Prisoners of Conscience Holiday Fund, which offers restorative holidays in Jersey for human rights advocates, political refugees and people who have been victims of persecution in their countries of origin.

Also made an MBE is James Mews, Chair of Music in Action, a charity which brings music education to hundreds of young people in Jersey every year and which organises the Liberation International Music Festival.

Meanwhile, Sarah Haycock has received the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the community through the Teenage Cancer Trust.
