THE ILLUSTRATOR behind one of the world’s most recognisable children’s book characters is set to showcase his expertise at the Jersey Festival of Words.

Axel Scheffler, the artist behind “The Gruffalo”, will be live-drawing some of his famous characters , sharing stories and introducing two new books to an audience at the Freedom Centre on Saturday 27 September.

His visit coincides with the twenty-five-year anniversary of another of Scheffler’s best-selling series, “Tales from Acorn Wood”.

“The Gruffalo” – which has sold over 17.5 million copies in 105 countries – is the brainchild of the Hamburg-born artist who moved to the UK in 1982 and is celebrated for his warm, humorous style.

Other children’s events included in this year’s programme feature magician Mat Ricardo, and performance poet Christian Foley, who will be performing from his new children’s picture book “The Oddsocktopus”.

Tickets for all events at Jersey Festival of Words 2025 will be available from Monday 9 June.
