QUEEN’S VALLEY reservoir remains partially closed due to an ongoing rat problem, which has been made more challenging by members of the public persistently feeding the wildlife, Jersey Water has said.
The utility company confirmed that, while the lower car park is open, visitors are still unable to access the top area of the reservoir.
Jersey Water said last month that it was dealing with a rat infestation at the site, “caused by people feeding the wildlife”.
It explained that the rats were a public health risk and were also causing damage to fences and gates.
In an update, Jersey Water facilities manager Terry Gasnier said: “We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we work to resolve the ongoing rat issue at Queen’s Valley.”
He continued: “Unfortunately, we do need to keep the top area of the reservoir closed while we continue to address this problem, which has been made more challenging by members of the public persistently feeding the wildlife.”
Mr Gasnier added: “We know this will be disappointing to the many people who enjoy visiting the reservoir and we are doing all we can, working with local authorities and agencies, to resolve this and reopen the site as quickly as possible.”
