MOTORISTS may not be able to access Rouge Bouillon early next month as previously hoped due to the “highly complex” final phase of work.
The Infrastructure Department said that following the demolition of the outbuildings and boundary walls last week, complicated geotechnical investigation survey work within the sinkhole that appeared in December after a water main burst, may delay the opening of the road.
They explained that the fourth and final phase of work is “highly complex” and presents “ongoing safety challenges” which are being continuously assessed.
According to the Department’s four-step plan, the stretch of road between Clarendon Road and Palmyra Road was planned to re-open to traffic from 2 May.
However, the geotechinal investigation and work to fill voids in the area has been pushed back, with a final safety review of the area now expected on 11 May, before the Department can open the road.
A spokesperson said: “While progress is being made, the complexity of the investigations may result in delays to the overall completion date.”
“Every effort is being made to mitigate this and maintain progress,” they added.
All scaffolding is expected to be removed from the site next week in preparation for the eventual opening of the road
The spokesperson said that updates will continue to be provided and the road will reopen “at the earliest possible opportunity”.
