Tango rests after his successful day at Crufts

AN Islander has described being “on cloud nine” after his giant puppy won two awards at the world’s largest dog show on Sunday.

Chris Rudd (60) and his 11-month-old Leonberger, Tango, secured first place in the Good Citizen Dog Scheme class and third in the Leonberger Puppy category at Crufts in Birmingham.

The St John Centenier, who can often be seen walking his dog in the parish lanes, said: “It was nerve wracking experience being on the infamous green carpet, but lots of encouragement and support from good friends and Tango’s breeder helped steady the nerves.

“There were no expectations on the day, we were there to enjoy the experience and also support our dear friend from Jersey, Caroline Germain, who had also qualified with her Leonberger, Gosh.

“The event itself is huge and the sheer volume of people and dogs attending was quite daunting, but Tango took it all in his stride. We lost count of how many cuddles he gave out.

“Once he was all cuddled out, he sensibly decided to curl up on his bench and snooze the last couple of hours away while the humans came down from cloud nine.”

Tango, who weighs 65kg, follows a raw diet, does hydrotherapy, and enjoys beach walks and training with the Jersey Big Dog Club.
