A DANGEROUSLY out-of-control dog bit and seriously injured a man in St Helier town centre.

Lucas Rodrigues (19) admitted failing to keep the dog – called Hunter – under control. The attack took place in Royal Crescent on 15 April.

Hunter is said to be a Boerboel, a species of guard dog also known as the South African Mastiff, and originally bred to protect farmsteads in South Africa from predators.

The case was adjourned until 29 August and Rodrigues was released on bail.

The Magistrate’s Court was also due to determine whether the dog should be destroyed.
