A MOTORIST who was caught driving through the centre of St Helier at almost twice the legal alcohol limit has been fined £2,000 and banned from driving.

The Magistrate’s Court heard that Patrick Durkin (42) was stopped by police on Route de la Libération at 1.10am on 6 August. A test showed he had 65 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal maximum is 35 micrograms.

Durkin admitted the charge of drinking and driving.

As well as the fine, the Magistrate, Bridget Shaw, disqualified him from driving for 18 months and ordered him to retake the driving test before getting back on the road.
