JERSEY War Tunnels has been ranked among some of the best visitor attractions in the world on Tripadvisor for the second year running.
The historical venue has retained its ‘Travellers’ Choice’ rating, which is one of the most prestigious accolades given out by the travel review website.
The award is determined by millions of reviews and has placed the War Tunnels in the top 10% of visitor attractions worldwide.
Chief operating officer Joe Carnegie said: ‘We’re delighted to receive this exclusive award for the second year running. Millions of people put their trust in how visitors rate places on Tripadvisor. We’re really proud of the fact that so many have enjoyed the Tunnels and taken the time to share their experience.’
The site, which was dug into the St Lawrence hillside by forced and slave workers, contains a collection of exhibits telling the story of the Island’s occupation by the German forces.
One Tripadvisor visitor commented: ‘A holiday in Jersey is not complete without a visit to Jersey War Tunnels to learn about and experience one of the most difficult periods in the Island’s history.’
Another said: ‘The museum is a fascinating chronicle of the German Occupation of Jersey during World War Two. It’s the perfect blend of facts [and] statistics, mixed with accounts from the residents who remained on the Island during the early 1940s. Many chambers in the tunnel have been preserved from that time, as have the unfinished tunnels. It’s an essential visit for history enthusiasts staying in Jersey.’
