Overdale confirmed as preferred site for new hospital

After years of debate and delays, Members approved the Overdale site by 37 votes to six with one abstention.

In his speech proposing the site, Senator Lyndon Farnham sought to reassure Members that, even with the financial pressures of Covid-19, the Island was in a strong financial position and could afford to pay up to £800 million for the new facility.

An initial shortlist of five sites was whittled down to two – Overdale and the People’s Park – before ministers ultimately put forward their preferred option.

An amendment from St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft which called for ministers to bring forward a report on alternative access strategies before any land or properties were acquired to facilitate access to Overdale was approved.
