'Duck bill' could reduce flooding

AN unusual-looking contraption has been fitted to the mouth of the storm water outlet at Longbeach in the Royal Bay of Grouville.

The 'duck bill' device is part of the flood-prevention scheme to protect Gorey Village.

It is the Infrastructure Department's latest version of a tide flap and it allows fresh water to run out to sea, but prevents the sea flooding the outlet at high tide.
