UK Prime Minister David Cameron , who was in favour of Britain remaining in the EU and pledged to hold the referendum before last year’s general election, has resigned and will step down by October.
In Jersey, Chief Minister Ian Gorst, External Relations Minister Philip Bailhache and Senator Philip Ozouf met on Friday morning to discuss how the Island will react to the result.
On Twitter, Senator Gorst said: ‘There will be long period after the EU referendum while negotiation takes place between UK and the EU. EU nationals remain very welcome in Jersey.
‘Jersey will continue to work with the UK government in a positive and constructive way. Ministers and officials have good working relationships.’
