Senator Philip Ozouf, who has responsibility for digital, competition and financial services, said that the Island’s director of financial services Joe Moynihan – who comes under the Senator’s political leadership – and States international affairs adviser Colin Powell were ‘exceptional people’ working hard at the highest levels to protect Jersey’s interests.

He said that spending thousands of pounds on flights in the last five years – £57,060 for Mr Moynihan and £50,118 for Mr Powell – was ‘fully justified’.

And he added that on occasion it was appropriate for the pair to travel business class, for example when they were required to work upon their arrival or were travelling a long distance for a short period of time.
