In his amendment to Environment Minister Rob Duhamel’s proposed Island Plan changes, Senator Maclean said he feared that enhancing the regulation of Jersey’s protected zones would threaten to ‘squeeze’ middle Jersey, infringe homeowners’ basic rights to improve their properties and further more lead to a spike in unemployment within the building and design industry.

However, former Planning chief officer Deputy John Young says that not discussing extra protection would be ‘out of touch with the views of the majority of the public’.
