Jerseys old and new preparing to celebrate

Jerseyman and naval commander Sir George Carteret named the state after his home Island when it was given to him as a gift in recognition of his loyalty to King Charles II.

During a trip to the state this week, Senator Ozouf has so far met politicians, toured the Senate, given a radio interview and seen historical documents in the state archives.

Speaking to the JEP from New Jersey, Senator Ozouf said: ‘The trip, which was really a personal interest trip, has developed into the links between Jersey and New Jersey being reignited. They haven’t been focused on since 1995, when Sir Philip Bailhache came here.’
