Talks over creating a joint Channel Islands aircraft registry broke down recently with both Islands choosing to set up their own systems after they could not agree on the best way forward.
Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean said that the proposals from the Sarnians were too ‘Guernseycentric’ with authorities across the water suggesting a set up that would have given them an unfair advantage in the commercial benefit that came from the system.
The scrapping of the plans has been questioned by pilot Charles Strasser who also serves as a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association advisory board, which has been involved with the registry project. ‘It’s a shame that this has happened,’ he said.
