Behind-the-scenes disagreements between States departments have delayed the progress of a ‘white paper’ which would set out plans for updating Jersey’s licensing law.
However, Senator Maclean said that he expected plans to be published soon, although he said a minimum price-per-unit proposal to raise off-licence prices nearer to pub prices was not under discussion.
That indication might be welcomed by the off-licence trade, whose prices would effectively be the only ones affected by a price-per-unit requirement, but they might not be so pleased with his suggestion that there should be ‘a far more level playing field’ between themselves and the on-licensed trade.
