It has been testing equipment that allows low-visibility landing at airports that do not have a ground-based instrument landing system.

It is also possible that future developments could lead to a cut in the cost of airport operations as they may not have to go to the significant of expensive of providing an ILS.

The Guernsey States-owned airline has been using a Garmin GPS satellite system at Alderney Airport in conjunction with a new European navigation system that will allow aircraft to land in lower visibility than at present.

The EU satellite system, EGNOS, came fully online earlier this month and Aurigny has been testing it in two of its Trislander fleet.
