The ex-politician is currently on bail after being handed a ten-week jail term for contempt of court by the Magistrate’s Court in November.
At that same hearing he was also fined £4,200 for motoring and data protection offences and ordered to pay £10,000 costs.
Yesterday Syvret told the Court of Appeal that he would be appealing against the convictions and sentences – of which he has served just one day in prison so far – on a number of grounds, including that the case against him was biased and politically motivated, that it was an abuse of process and that during the course of his trial he was prevented from cross-examining witnesses to the extent that he would have liked.
The court had earlier dismissed a number of applications from the former Health Minister, including two to have the appeal adjourned so that he could have access to more evidence and one to call a number of witnesses for the appeal.
