Members of boating associations feared that the harbour would be flooded as part of plans by Jersey Harbours. This could have resulted in some boat owners losing their cheaper drying berths at the Old Harbour and being forced into the more expensive marinas.
But following votes against the plans by St Helier Boat Owners’ Association and the St Helier Yacht Club last month, Senator Maclean has entered the fray. In a letter to association chairman Mike Stevens, he said that work to progress marina development plans would be suspended, including the reconfiguration of St Helier marina and the Old Harbour.
The Senator also told Mr Stevens that Jersey Harbours would be forming a task group to produce options for marina developments.
