Beating Aland 75-39 they now take on the Isle of Man in the battle for seventh place.
Coach Bob Gouzinis said: ‘It was a fairly easy game today, we were ahead the entire time so it was nice to have the chance to try out different plays and formations as well as give lots of our players the opportunity to participate.
‘We had such a tough opening group with Bermuda and the Cayman Islands that both defeats were expected as they are far better teams than we are.
‘Because of that we had a specific set of objectives and we used the matches as a chance to achieve those and we all had to work really hard as it was really difficult for us to get our plays in.
‘Although we didn’t get off to the best start but now we get to challenge for seventh place against teams that are more equal to us.
‘The Isle of Man is actually quite a decent team and they have a few players who are quite experienced especially their big centre forward – he’s the first thing you notice about the team.
‘Surrounding him are a couple of guards who can hold their own and they have a very fast point guard who can get the ball going very quickly so it’s not going to be an easy match but we’ll try our hardest and I’m sure the team will do their best to continue winning.’
For Gouzinis the trip to Aland is his first taste of the Island Games but what does he make of it all?
‘It’s been a huge experience especially for a team like us, to just be here against these sorts of opponents brings us all together. Aland is fantastic, it really is amazing and everyone is so lucky to have the opportunity to participate in an event like this.’
Jersey squad: Max Burnett, Robert Honey, Michal Niedzialek, Gregory Ruellan, Jonathan Gilmore, Mark Macgregor, Chris Nutter, Pawel Zalewski, Haralabos Gouzinis and David Middleton.
