THE Economic Development Minister has reiterated the views recently expressed by the Chamber of Commerce, that the government should ‘get out of the way’, to help the Island get through the recession.
Senator Alan Maclean, pictured, said that he believes the States should be ‘removing unnecessary barriers’.
‘In these difficult times, one way of allowing stimulus to occur is for government to quite literally get out of the way by removing unnecessary barriers. This point was echoed in a recent Chamber of Commerce survey – indeed, it was top of the list,’ said the minister.
‘The recent announcement by the Environment Minister of a fast track to the planning process is a welcome start. So is our more flexible approach to the Regulation of Undertakings by operating in a truly ‘fit for purpose’ way. Does this mean we open the flood gates? Absolutely not.’
