SAVILLS Private Finance in Seale Street has shut up shop only 18 months after it opened.
The UK mortgage broker said that the decision was made after a key member of staff decided to leave, coupled with the current difficulties in the housing market. Savills moved into Jersey in August 2007, a year after opening a Guernsey office. The company specialises in mortgage finance, including new mortgages and remortgages, and investment finance.
The manager of the Jersey office, Jody Whittingham, has resigned to become finance and account director at Side-On Creative Communication, a company she and her husband founded in 2000. ‘Bearing in mind that I was the main income provider for the Jersey office, and taking into account the current economic climate, the board has decided not to search for my replacement or second a colleague from Guernsey,’ said Mrs Whittingham.
The other two members of staff in Jersey have been made redundant. Customers are being referred to the Guernsey office, which is a larger operation employing ten staff.
