POLICE have served a disclosure notice about a senior civil servant to his employers as part of their major inquiry into historical child abuse.

The Education department civil servant was the subject of a clash in the States yesterday when Senator Stuart Syvret used parliamentary privilege to name him after another Member had asked a general question about the disclosure policy.

Disclosure is a precautionary measure only and does not signify guilt on the part of the person named.

Senator Syvret, who was sacked as Health and Social Services Minister because of his personal attacks on staff over the child abuse investigation, was accused of ‘flagrant abuse’ of States rules by naming the civil servant yesterday.

He took the opportunity to do so after Deputy Roy Le Hérissier asked Chief Minister Frank Walker what happened after a disclosure notice was issued by the police about a public servant’s alleged actions.

Senator Walker said that managers would ask the police for more information about the basis of the allegations.
