From Philip Clyde-Smith.

I AGREE with Tony Banner’s letter (JEP, 7 August) regarding Senator Stuart Syvret.

As I write this I am worried I will only be adding more fuel to Senator Syvret’s fire. However, currently living and working in London, I am usually very proud to say that I am from Jersey, but every time Senator Syvret’s name is mentioned or he gives an interview in the British media in regard to the Haut de la Garenne inquiry, I feel too embarrassed to do so.

His actions in his eyes may be honourable, but they can come across outside Jersey as someone who is using the child abuse scandal for political gain and his own personal issues.

The spotlight should be on the police investigation and its final outcomes and should not be hijacked for political reasons or personal issues and vendettas by both Jersey politicians and certain well known UK anti-Jersey MPs.

In the end, the only people who get hurt are the original victims for whom this inquiry was started to finally seek closure and justice.
