ISLANDERS competed alongside Normans from the French towns which their parishes are twinned with in the ‘It’s a Knockout’ Jumelage games over the weekend.
In all, nine joint teams took part in the event which is held every two years. After two days of fun and games on Saturday and Sunday on the Grainville Rugby pitch, the team from St Ouen and Coutances came out on top.
They beat the teams from St Peter and St Helier into second and third places respectively.
The dozen-strong sides were made up of six competitors from Jersey and six from their twinned towns.
In classic ‘It’s a Knockout’ style, the events featured races, climbing and wading through, around and over inflatable obstacle courses.
The event was organised by St Saviour Twinning Committee secretary Bob Olliver, and was formally opened on Saturday morning by the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, and Mr Guillou of the Conseil Generale de Normandie. ‘The weather held up, and all the teams thoroughly enjoyed themselves,’ said Mr Olliver.nextpage
