A REVIEW of safety procedures for the vehicles that ferry people to Elizabeth Castle has been ordered after Jersey Heritage announced it would take over running the craft.

The politician with responsibility for sea transport, Assistant Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean, has asked Jersey Harbours to assess the organisation’s operating proposals amid concerns over passenger safety following a number of incidents.

Meanwhile, the decision by the trust to agree to spend £500,000 on the amphibious ferries has been labelled a ‘monumental cock-up’ by a States Deputy with past business experience building this type of craft.

St Brelade Deputy Sean Power says that the two vessels secured as a result of a deal with Pure Adventure last week are ‘totally unsuitable and potentially dangerous’ But those views will be rebutted in the States next week. Education Minister Mike Vibert is ready to present evidence from the Jersey Heritage Trust that all essential operating requirements are being met.
