EIGHT sites around the Island will be rezoned to provide over 300 ‘lifelong’ homes for older people, if the States back a proposal lodged today by Environment Minister Freddie Cohen.
The biggest site is in St Saviour behind the parish hall, with the others in St Clement, St John, St Mary, St Brelade and Grouville, and two in Trinity.
Together they comprise 26 acres or 58.5 vergées of land on which it is proposed homes for the over-55s will be built.
Some of the properties will be social rental, with the others a mix of the new lifelong homes and some first-time-buyer properties, included at the request of the municipalities of Trinity and St Mary. A number of the sites are close to parish villages or existing parish homes for the elderly.
