Sir Philip, who is 61, has now returned to the Island where he is convalescing at home.

A statement issued today said that he is making steady progress towards a full recovery following his operation and was looking forward to a return to good health in due course.

The statement said that Sir Philip wanted to extend his very grateful thanks to all those who had already sent messages of support and good wishes.

Sir Philip, who has been Bailiff since 1995, is not expected to return to full-time work until the beginning of March, and in his absence the Deputy Bailiff Michael Birt is standing in for him.
