He has told his Council of Ministers colleagues that he will not attend the emergency meeting because he has not had time to gather information and prepare his case. Senator Syvret told Chief Minister Frank Walker that he would be ready for the next scheduled meeting on 6 September, but that would mean the debate to sack him would be put back a fortnight. But Senator Walker says that the meeting will go ahead. He says that the case is about Senator Syvret’s behaviour and his attacks on staff within his department, not childcare standards, which the Senator claims are deficient, and that he should be able to put his case together in time for the meeting. If the ministers agree this week, a proposition could be lodged in time for the next States sitting on 11 September, instead of being held over for two weeks. Only the States can vote to dismiss a minister – and only the Chief Minister can lodge a proposal for them to do so.
