‘He has never set foot in Social Services’

Former St Lawrence Constable Iris Le Feuvre said that for all his public criticism of child protection standards, the minister had never raised concerns with the department or provided them with any evidence to investigate. But she added that after hearing that officers had refused to carry out the order to sack her, she was not sure whether she still had the job or not. ‘I cannot get my head around this, that anybody could be in charge of a department for eight years and never have put his foot in the place,’ she said. ‘He never gave them any evidence, and he never went in. That is a fact. He never visited the department in eight years. If he’d had worries, he should have said “we need to meet”, or at least gone to the department.’ The charge has been denied by Senator Syvret. He said that he had held meetings at the Social Services offices with the director and visited sites, but he had not been to every single building.
