David Le Quesne likened the Licensing Assembly to a ‘kangaroo court’ and said that he was sick of the police jumping to conclusions about the St Helier pub. He said that if the Eagle did have a reputation, it was unwarranted. At yesterday’s Licensing Assembly, the pub’s licence was revoked until at least September, when the tenant and licensee, Kevin Davies, will be eligible to apply to get it back. Until then, the Randalls pub will be closed. Mr Le Quesne said: ‘I think it is a punishment too far for what actually happened. I take on board the responsibility of each and every one of our licensees, but it is totally impossible to be in the premises every hour of the day.’ He added that Mr Davies had taken on the manageress in good faith and trusted her to run the pub effectively. ‘We cannot possibly be mentoring them every hour of the day,’ he said.
