While Jersey veteran Eugene Ellis won three championships it was outstanding young Sarnian Alice Loveridge who stole the show with six titles, including beating Kay Lefebvre 4-2 for the ladies singles title, her attacking game winning the encounter.
She also won the U18 and U15 girls titles and the U13 Open, beating Natasha Marriott, Helen Liron and Max Tupper respectively – all without losing a game.
Loveridge then combined with Kay Chivers to win the doubles 4-1 over Lefebvre and Dawn Buckley then, with Adam Langlois, the mixed doubles 4-1 against the experienced pair of Eugene Ellis and Lefebvre.
Guernsey’s Scott Romeril took the men’s singles title in the eagerly awaited final match of the evening against Marcin Jurkiewicz.
From two games all, Romeril’s good serving and powerful driving were too much for Jurkiewicz’s defence and counter-attacking.
Romeril also won the U21 and U18 singles, in both cases beating Josh Band.
In the U21 match, Band had points to level the match at 2-all, but Romeril produced a superb recovery shot to close off the chance.
? However, playing with Gary Dodd he lost the men’s doubles to Ellis and Jurkiewicz in five close games.
Jersey had had a good start to the evening with a 4-1 win for Hugo Tupper over Joshua Stacey in the U11s.
Even then Tupper was wearing his lucky green top! Josh Band then played well to win the U15 boys title 4-1 against Oliver Langlois.
An excellent win as Langlois is in the Olympic Development squad.
Ellis’s non-stop attack easily gave him the Over 40 title, 4-0 against Mark Pipet and teamed with Bobby Vincent he also won the Veteran doubles 4-0 against Phil Hunkin and Martyn Gaudion.? Lefebvre came so close to beating Dawn Morgan in the veteran womens singles.
She edged 3-2 ahead in a match of long rallies, but Morgan just dared to attack more and prevailed.
Malcolm Gallichan gave Ian Fitchett a close match in the over 60 singles before going down 4-2 but Bruce Gallichan didn’t take a game from Mark Pipet in the Over 50 singles.
