But St Ouennais were once again denied the chance to vote for their Constable – he was re-elected unopposed, as he has been since he first stepped into the role in 1994.
The parish hall audience of around 40 people greeted his re-election with a resounding round of applause, and did the same for Procureur du Bien Public David Ellam, who was re-elected earlier in the evening.
Mr Ellam’s re-election to a second term as Procureur allowed Mr Vibert to sidestep the same trap that ensnared his colleague in St Mary a week ago.
The Procureur chaired the second part of the meeting, fulfilling the requirements of the Public Elections (Jersey) Law by ensuring that Mr Vibert (61) was not left to declare himself re-elected.
After being proposed by former Senator Jean Le Maistre and waiting for the mandatory 20 minutes to elapse to allow a challenge, Mr Vibert thanked parishioners, parish officials and staff and his wife Beryl for their support.
