The Jersey Darts Organisation has clinched a five-year sponsorship deal with the Seabirds hotel group.

It means that the Open – which used to attract some of the game’s leading names to the Modern Hotels-sponsored event at Fort Regent – will return next November.

It also means there will be a Channel Islands Open competition next month.

Both competitions will be staged at the Ommaroo Hotel.

The Open, with a prize fund of £6,000, will consist of men’s and ladies singles, mixed pairs and two junior events.

It will be open to any player from the Island or overseas.

In the past it has attracted household names like Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, Cliff Lazerenco and Eric Bristow.

Said JDO president Rob Benest: ‘We hope to get some pros over from the UK.

We’ve got good links with some of them and it’ll be good to see a few old faces back in Jersey.’ The CI competition will run on 9, 10 and 11 March with a prize fund of £1,000.

It will consist of a shuffles pairs competition on Thursday, ladies singles on the Friday night and men’s singles on Saturday afternoon.

Any player who wants to enter should contact the secretary of the Jersey Darts Organisation Mike Devlin for an entry form on tel 077977 842743.

Or forms can be downloaded from the website www.jerseydartsorganisation.co.uk.

Closing date for entries is 2 March.
