Up to 25 Island professionals attended the GAIM 2005 conference in Lausanne that focused on expert funds and hedge funds in particular.
The Jersey Funds Association manned a stand, and Phil Austin, chief executive of Jersey Finance, was one of the speakers.
John Harris, P & R’s director of international finance, also attended.
Mr Austin said: ‘The real beauty of these events is the chance to network, and it was important for Jersey to be there.
It was quite a technical conference for funds aficionados, and very well organised.
We were highlighting the opportunities to set up and manage funds in Jersey and for managers to set up a presence in the Island.
Already this year hedge fund managers with funds of US$900 million have opted to relocate to Jersey, lured by the introduction of new streamlined regulation.
The Expert Fund regime makes it easier for funds to be established, and follow-up regulations on non-domiciled funds enable promoters to select Jersey-based administrators and custodians if their expert fund is based in another jurisdiction.
