The Channel Islands Under German Occupation 1940-1945 by Cambridge historian Dr Paul Sanders was commissioned by the Jersey Heritage Trust and is published jointly next month with the Société Jersiaise.

Sir Philip said: ‘Channel Islanders have waited a long time for a fair and balanced account of this troubled period of their history.

Paul Sanders has provided such an account.

This book is an important addition to the historiography of the German Occupation of the Channel Islands.’ Dr Sanders is no stranger to European occupation history of the Second World War.

Regarded as a specialist in the field, he previously wrote The Ultimate Sacrifice, the story of Islanders imprisoned by the Nazis.

His extensive research within and outside the islands involved an impressive panel of experts who experienced the Occupation.

The book has been endorsed by the States of Jersey Liberation 60 Committee and the Bailiff has written the foreword.

It is also supported by the Royal British Legion.
