But it was a battling performance from manager Ian Morgan’s men after the club reverted to a home-grown-only policy after winning the league last season with a side of imported players.
The result was all the more creditable because they were up against a team which included three players who are full-time on the world circuit.
Jeremy Cross, playing as the Island club’s No 1, went down 6-2, 6-0 to Tim Patient, but then club coach Andrew Evans, playing at No 2, recorded Caesarean’s only victory in the singles as he defeated former ranked player Ben Haran 7-6, 6-3.
Haran was in the same junior squad as Tim Henman.
Gareth Roberts, at No 3, lost a gruelling match against James Daley 6-2 in the third set and Michael Brugrabber went down in straight sets to Jamie Feaver.
In the doubles, Evans continued his winning form as he teamed up with Cross to beat Raynes Park’s leading partnership of Patient and Haran 6-4, 6-3.
Grant Collins and Roberts were outclassed 6-0 in the first set of their match against Feaver and Daley but rallied in the second before going down 6-4.
Coach Morgan said: ‘We did better than I expected – they’ve got some highly ranked players.
It was especially good to see Andrew play so well, but it was a great team effort.
‘It was also tremendous that we were so well supported.
There were lots of people there to spur us on.’ Caesarean’s next National League match is away to West Hants on 17 April.
In the other National League fixtures, West Hants beat Park Langley 4-2 and Esporta Croydon beat Guernsey Longchamps 5-1.
