The States-owned company has outlined details of its ‘Next Generation Network’, which will integrate its voice and data networks into one.

Although a lot of changes will be behind the scenes – and people will probably not notice any difference when they make a call – it will lead to more services being introduced.

Comparing this development with the transition from typewriter to computer, JT chief executive Bob Lawrence said that the NGN was a major step forward for the company.

‘It goes right to the core of what we do,’ he said.

‘It is as if Jersey Telecom is receiving a new heart to power its operation.

This is a leading-edge way of transporting voice and data, which for the first time will be carried on a single network.
