The response, which included £178,000 in phone line donations, has been described as ‘amazing’ by States Treasurer Ian Black – who is also appeal treasurer.

The Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, who launched the Jersey Asia Relief Appeal last week, has asked that, in line with the day of mourning in the UK on Wednesday, flags in the Island be flown at half mast between 8 am and sunset as a mark of respect for those who perished.

Sir Philip also said that those wishing to pay their respects could take part in the three minute silence taking place in the UK at noon Wednesday.
