Driving home from his girlfriend’s house, Mr Creedy (28), had been going up St Saviour’s Hill when the branch snapped off the tree and fell onto the bonnet of his car, smashing the headlight and ripping off the bumper.
‘I don’t really remember what happened.
It was all a bit bizarre,’ he said.
‘I was slowing down because the car in front of me was turning right, then there were just all these leaves and branches which came down onto the car.
I didn’t hear it go because I had music on quite loud.
I just stopped the car and got out.’ In the Parish Hall Centenier Patrick Corkery heard the crash and went running out to help divert traffic around the car and the fallen foliage before calling Centenier Colin Foley to help out.
Mr Foley said: ‘Mr Creedy had a lucky escape.
If he had been another four feet further along the road when it came down the accident could have been a lot worse.’ But Mr Creedy said he was not too worried about what had happened.
‘I guess I was pretty lucky.
I had been trying to sell it, but I think it is a write-off now, so I could be struggling.
Although, the tree did come from over the wall at Government House, so you never know.’
