Guernsey’s Robert West beat Dominic McLuskey 6-4, 7-5, while the play-off for third and fourth places was between Patrick Ogier and Stefano Rizutto, the former winning 6-2, 6-2.
There was success for a second Rizutto, Catriona, who won the final of the U18 girls when she beat fellow-Sarnian Charlotte Kollar 2-6, 7-5 (7-3).
In fact there were three Guernsey girls in the last four of the U18 category, with the lone Jersey representative, Francesca Dubras, having a comfortable 6-0, 6-0 win for third place.
Although three Jersey lads got to the U14 semi-finals, Sarnian Nick Thibeault was the eventual winner, beating James Connelly 6-2, 6-3 to become champion.
The third and fourth place play-off was a very close game which ended with a win for Rory Topping, against Jordan Roberts, 6-2, 7-6.
Winner of the U14 girls was another Guernsey player, Kiara Green, who lives in Alderney, who beat Jersey’s Katie Gouyette 6-3, 6-3.
Third place went to Alex Taylor of Jersey who beat Francesca Mcluskey from Guernsey 6-0, 6-0.
Jersey players won all the U10 and U12 events at Les Ormes.
The U12 boys dominated their event by filling the four semi-final places.
Finalists Charlie Cohen and Tim de la Haye are extremely talented in many sports, but the final proved less than competitive with Cohen, recently watched by a top LTA coach, winning in two straight sets without dropping a game.
Michael Wakeham placed third after defeating Jonathan Van Neste 6-4, 7-6.
Jersey’s Kirsten McArthur defeated Guernsey’s Jo Dyer 6-2, 6-3 to win the girls U12 title, the victor continuing her good form shown for the successful U13s team at the County Cup in Basingstoke recently.
Nicole Dubras took third spot after defeating Eva Moynihan 6-0, 6-2.
The talented Scott Clayton, another being watched by the LTA, swept all before him to win the U10 boys title.
Clayton dropped just two games on his way to victory against Louis Sangan, steady progress for the latter who has only recently moved up from the mini-tennis programme.
Chris Van Neste and Max Tupper were third and fourth respectively.
Jersey’s Octavia Lamb won the U10 girls’ title following a competitive match against Guernsey’s Alice Loveridge.
Lamb, who won 6-2, 6-3, has had an excellent year and again has shown a lot of talent.
Elyssia Johnson placed third after defeating Nicole Moir 6-0, 6-0.
The CILTA’s Hugh Raymond said: ‘Coaches watching the youngsters at the Caesarean said they thought the standard of play was much better than last year, which means the CI should do very well in the 2005 County Cup competitions.’ He added: ‘The most important thing for all the players is to get as much match practice as possible.
Like all sports in the islands we can never get enough competition against different opposition, though we do our best to bring visiting teams over, but however much coaching a player has, it cannot equal the value of match experience.’
