Bowls Jersey have applied for permission to erect a 240 square foot temporary bowling rink next May as part of a campaign to get more people involved in the sport.

The idea received the enthusiastic backing of St Helier’s roads committee at their meeting yesterday, but the organisers will also need the support of the Bailiff, Sir Philip Bailhache, who in the past has preciously guarded the sanctity of the Square, blocking, for example, plans for an ice rink at Christmas.
