YooChooz.
om was launched yesterday and the main aim of the company is to deliver the latest DVDs direct to your door.
Managing director Robert Harrison said that the selection of DVDs offered was the largest available in the Channel Islands, and is available only to Channel Islanders.
‘YooChooz.
om allows film fans to rent as many DVDs as they want from a selection of more than 10,000 titles,’ he said.
Users who subscribe to the new site can keep DVDs for as long as they wish, with no penalties for a late return, as long as they subscribe to the website on a monthly basis.
‘All that is required, along with a single monthly payment, is that the DVDs are returned in their pre-paid envelope,’ said Mr Harrison.
‘Subscribers to YooChooz.
om can watch as few or as many films as they want.
The faster they watch and return them, the quicker we will send out their next selected titles – all at no extra charge.
It’s unlimited movie magic.
When subscribers select films online, using a login name and password, they can expect the films to be delivered direct to their door in two days, and they can also choose from a wish list, to make it easier to have their next film mailed directly to them.
The company is offering customers a choice of three packages, with price depending on how many DVDs they wish to collect a month.
Mr Harrison said that the site would offer subscribers major savings compared with the cost of hiring DVDs from a high-street shop.
‘There is no limit on the total number of DVDs they can watch each month, so a customer who watches and returns one DVD a night for a month will save nearly £100 compared with the equivalent cost of hiring 30 DVDs from a typical high-street chain,’ he said.
‘The idea for YooChooz.
om was born from a number of different things that happened over a few weeks last November 2003.
‘My young son likes watching Disney DVDs and it was getting very expensive to keep renting them – most of which went back late.
It really is a pain making that trip to the shop.
He only wanted to watch them once or twice, quickly got bored and then wanted to see something new.
This meant I was spending enormous amounts of money on hiring or buying children’s DVDs.
‘After reading about a UK and an American online DVD rental store that offered a similar service to that which we are going to offer with YooChooz, I began to go through a complicated sign-up process with one of the UK companies only to be told that they don’t provide a service to the Channel Islands.
‘Both my wife and I (since having our son) love to sit in and watch movies.
My wife loves old movie classics and over the past few years she has found it harder and harder to get her hands on movies such as Gone with the Wind and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
I love Lord of the Rings and comedy movies and, as you can imagine, with a busy schedule of having a young family we found it harder and harder to get to the rental store and hire a copy of the films we wanted to watch.
‘So, it was very easy to come to the conclusion that we should create the Channel Islands’ very own online DVD rental service.
